December Project: René Magritte

The Listening Room, Rene Magritte


Project Attributes:
  • Brief introduction tRené Magritte and surrealists, (VTS) Visual Thinking Strategy
  • Illusion tricks explored and practiced including the following
    • Angles
    • Diagonal lines
    • Playing with scale
    • Shadows/shading (optional)
  • A realistic setting was created using collage format.  An unexpected object was added in Magritte style.

October Project - Fall Collage

Project Attributes:

  • Hot vs. Cold Colors
  • Accent color of mixed media defined
  • Layering to suggest depth (paint & parts)
  • Printed corrugated cardboard = added texture
  • Collage leaves, pine needles, acorns, pinecones, etc.
  • Decoupage process explored

September Project: Textile Designs (Grade 4)

September Project - 3D Sculpture (Grade 5)

Project Attributes:
  • Characeristics of 3-Dimensional sculpture – Line, shape, color, space, balance, weight, light, texture, size, material made from, etc.
  • Team Work – students worked in teams of 4 or 5 to construct a 3-D sculpture out of wood
  • Cooperation, Kindness, good listening to team members, collaboration among team members
